In the upcoming sequel, Obsidian's Grounded 2, players will finally get a feature they’ve long requested: the ability to ride giant bugs. This new mechanic, where teens shrunk to insect size can mount and steer creatures like living vehicles, was a community-driven wish that the developers were eager to fulfill.

In fact, mountable bugs—or "Buggies," as the studio playfully calls them—are a primary reason a sequel exists. The original Grounded, built for the Xbox One, had reached its technical limits by launch. Obsidian wanted to make its microscopic survival game far larger in scope, a vision enabled by moving to Unreal Engine 5.
