Capcom has unveiled exciting new gameplay footage of their highly anticipated 2026 action game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The spotlight of this reveal isn't just on the game itself but also on its protagonist, the legendary Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.

During the PlayStation State of Play, Capcom premiered a new trailer showcasing the sword-based action gameplay of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Despite the 2026 release date, the game already promises a thrilling experience with its impressive combat mechanics and formidable enemies.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword will feature Miyamoto Musashi, whose historical prowess with the sword is brought to life in the game. Not only does Musashi exhibit unparalleled sword skills, but the trailer also highlights his roguish and comedic personality, adding depth to his character.

In their press release, Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game centered around one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game appearance is modeled after the iconic Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Musashi in several samurai films.

Set in a demon-overrun Kyoto, Onimusha: Way of the Sword pits players against an evil force called Malic, which is intent on summoning Hell and its denizens into Japan. This game marks the first new entry in the Onimusha series in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom has also announced the release of a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, scheduled for May 23, 2025.
