According to recent reports, one of the projects recently canceled by developer People Can Fly was Outriders 2.

The Polish studio, best known for Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, confirmed in early June that further jobs were at risk when it terminated two projects: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.

Although the statement from CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski did not specify the publishers involved, PCF’s website clarified that Gemini was a partnership with Square Enix, while Bifrost was self-published.

The cancelations resulted in internal team restructuring and followed the April cancellation of Project Dagger, an action-adventure game initially set for co-development and publication with Take-Two Interactive before its withdrawal in September 2022.

Now, a report from Thumb Wars, corroborated by Insider Gaming, indicates that Project Gemini was indeed an Outriders sequel. The game was reportedly undergoing motion capture recording when the cancellation occurred.

Square Enix declined to comment when contacted by IGN. People Can Fly has not yet responded.

The company also scaled back development earlier when it laid off 120 employees at the end of last year. It is currently collaborating with PUBG maker Krafton on Project Echo, with Sony on Project Delta, and with Microsoft on Gears of War: E-Day.

IGN's Outriders review awarded the game a 7/10, stating: “Outriders' thrilling sci-fi shooting and rewarding loot mechanics make it worth pushing past its underwhelming story and technical shortcomings.” PCF’s latest release is Bulletstorm VR, an enhanced version of the iconic shooter for Meta Quest and PSVR 2.
