The Nintendo Switch 2 is generating buzz, particularly with its innovative changes to the Joy-Cons, as revealed by recent patents. Although Nintendo has yet to officially confirm these details, multiple reports suggest that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will feature magnetic attachments and can function similarly to a computer mouse.

According to a patent filed by Nintendo, the Joy-Cons will attach to the Switch 2's body via a recess equipped with two magnets. The patent describes, "This game controller is detachably mounted to a body device that has a recess, that comprises a first magnet and a second magnet at the bottom of the recess, and that can execute game processing." To detach the Joy-Cons, users will need to press two buttons located on the top surface of a protrusion, with each button being attracted to one of the magnets.

The patent also illustrates how the Joy-Cons can be used as a mouse. Players can hold the controller railside down, using the shoulder buttons (R1 and R2) as left and right mouse buttons, respectively. There's also a possibility of incorporating a scrolling function using the joysticks.

Further illustrations from the patent show various configurations for this mouse-like functionality, including using one Joy-Con as a mouse and the other as a traditional game controller, or using both as dual mice.

The magnetic attachment feature was among the earliest leaks about the Switch 2, while the mouse-like function surfaced later. Although not officially confirmed, a teaser released in January hinted at this feature by showing the Joy-Cons gliding across a surface like a mouse.
