Starbreeze Entertainment, the developer behind Payday 3, is introducing an Offline Mode later this month. However, this new mode requires an internet connection – a significant caveat given the previous backlash against the game's initial lack of offline play.

The Payday series, launched in 2011 with Payday: The Heist, is renowned for its cooperative gameplay, focusing on elaborate heists in high-stakes locations. The series balances intense stealth mechanics with a wide arsenal of weaponry, offering diverse approaches to each mission. Payday 3 enhanced stealth options, providing players with greater strategic freedom. The upcoming "Boys in Blue" update on June 27th will include a new heist and the highly anticipated Offline Mode.

This new Offline Mode, launching in beta, aims to improve the solo experience. While initially requiring an online connection, future updates will enable completely offline play. This interim solution eliminates the need for solo players to use the matchmaking system, addressing a key complaint following the game's launch. The absence of a dedicated offline mode, alongside other omitted features like The Safehouse, drew considerable criticism.

The June 27th update also introduces a new heist, free in-game items, and several improvements. A new LMG and three masks expand the weapon and customization options. Players can now also name their custom loadouts.

Payday 3's launch faced numerous challenges, including server issues and a limited initial content offering (only eight heists). Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren apologized for these shortcomings, and subsequent updates have addressed some concerns. However, future heist expansions will be paid DLC, with "Syntax Error" costing $10. The new Offline Mode, while initially requiring online access, represents a step towards addressing player feedback and enhancing the solo gameplay experience.
