In a recent interview covered by PC Gamer, Atlus producer Kazushi Wada shed light on why fans of Persona 3 Portable's beloved female protagonist, Kotone Shiomi/Minako Arisato, should not expect to see her in Persona 3 Reload. Despite initial considerations during the planning of the post-launch DLC, Episode Aigis - The Answer, Wada confirmed that including the female protagonist, known affectionately as FeMC, would be too costly and time-consuming for the development team.

Persona 3 Reload, a full remake of the iconic 2006 JRPG, was released in February this year. While it brought back many of the game's signature features and mechanics, the exclusion of Kotone/Minako has left many fans disappointed. Wada explained, "The more we discussed it, the more unlikely it became. The development time and costs would not have been manageable." He further noted that even considering her addition through DLC was not feasible within their current timeline. "Since it is not possible for us to release P3R with the female protagonist in this window, we just can’t do it," he stated, expressing his regret to fans who had hoped for her inclusion. "I'm really sorry to all of the fans who were holding out hope, but it is likely never going to happen."

The popularity of P3P's FeMC had led many to anticipate her presence in Persona 3 Reload, either at launch or as post-release content. However, Wada's recent comments have quashed those hopes. In a previous interview with Famitsu, he had already hinted at the challenges involved, stating, "For a female protagonist, I am sorry to say that unfortunately, there is no possibility. The development time and cost would be several times longer than Episode Aigis, and the hurdles would be too high."
