Patapon’s Spiritual Successor, Ratatan, Unveils New Gameplay Trailer
A Glimpse into Rhythm-Based Combat and Boss Battles
The new Ratatan gameplay trailer offers an exciting preview of the game's core mechanics, highlighted by a thrilling battle against a colossal boss crab. Revealed during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, the trailer from Ratatan Works perfectly demonstrates the unique blend of rhythm game and side-scrolling action that defines Ratatan. The trailer emphasizes the game's online co-op functionality, allowing up to four players to engage in massive melee battles with up to 100 characters.Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, with the original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi returning, Ratatan’s Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, successfully surpassed its console launch stretch goal, guaranteeing a release on consoles.
Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025
According to a recent Kickstarter update, Ratatan's closed beta test begins February 27, 2025. Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into the game's progress and upcoming milestones. He noted that Ratatan has achieved over 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. Sakajiri outlined the closed beta's scope, revealing that the initial build will include Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 added during the approximately month-long test period. He also stated that "The distribution of codes, start date, and time will be announced via Discord and X as soon as they are confirmed."
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A specific release date is yet to be announced.
