Respawn Entertainment, the developer behind Apex Legends, has recently canceled an unannounced incubation project, resulting in layoffs of an unspecified number of employees involved in the project. The news was initially reported by Insider Gaming, citing a now-deleted LinkedIn post from a former production coordinator who mentioned being part of the project for the past year before its cancellation. The individual is now among the talented professionals in the gaming industry seeking new opportunities.

IGN independently verified the cancellation of this unannounced project, which was described as a multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS). This project was developed by a team that previously worked on another canceled Star Wars FPS at Respawn. While the exact number of layoffs remains undisclosed, sources familiar with the situation described it as "small." Additionally, at least one person connected to the project has stated on LinkedIn that their departure was voluntary.

This development adds to a series of project cancellations, layoffs, and restructurings at Electronic Arts (EA), which began in 2023. The year started with the elimination of 50 jobs at BioWare and an unknown number at Codemasters. Nearly a year ago, EA announced the layoff of 670 employees across the company and the closure of several projects, including the Star Wars FPS, which led to around two dozen job losses at Respawn. Since then, BioWare has undergone restructuring, with developers being reassigned to other internal projects and additional layoffs of key personnel.
