Robert Eggers, renowned for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to embark on an exciting new project: a sequel to the cherished classic Labyrinth. According to Variety, Eggers will helm both the writing and directing duties for this follow-up to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy masterpiece, which originally starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. Collaborating with him on the script is Sjón, with whom Eggers previously worked on The Northman. This comes after a previous attempt at a sequel, which had Scott Derrickson of Sinister fame attached, stalled without updates since 2023. It seems TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to move forward with Eggers' vision for the sequel.

Originally released in 1986, Labyrinth captivated audiences with its tale of the Goblin King Jareth, played by Bowie, who kidnaps the baby brother of Connelly's character. She embarks on a thrilling journey through a dark fantasy world, aided by a colorful cast of Henson puppets, to rescue her sibling.

In addition to the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also set to direct a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. This film will be set in 13th century England and feature dialogue in Old English, hinting at a deeply immersive historical setting where, presumably, a transformation into a wolf monster will play a central role.

Eggers' latest release, Nosferatu, hit theaters last Christmas. This film is a remake of the 1922 silent classic by F.W. Murnau and is set in 19th century Germany. It follows a young real estate agent's harrowing journey to Transylvania to sell a castle to a mysterious count, only to unleash vampiric horrors upon himself and his wife Ellen.
