Lucasfilm has officially announced Star Wars: Starfighter, a new film directed by Deadpool & Wolverine's Shawn Levy, starring Ryan Gosling. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on May 28, 2027, and its story unfolds five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The announcement was made at Star Wars Celebration, where it was confirmed that production will commence this fall.

Few additional details were shared about Star Wars: Starfighter, though it was confirmed that Gosling will portray a completely new character. This news gives Star Wars fans a clear date to mark on their calendars for Memorial Day 2027.
