Moderators of the SnyderCut subreddit removed a post urging fans to review bomb the upcoming Superman film and issued a statement distancing themselves from the campaign.

On Monday, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn responded after a Threads user alerted him to the post, which encouraged coordinated actions against his Superman film scheduled for July 11.

The since-deleted post directed fans to "flood platforms with spoilers," "bombard review sites with negative ratings," and "reserve tickets without completing transactions" to artificially suppress box office performance.

"Gunn destroyed the Snyderverse, and now it’s our turn to retaliate," the inflammatory post concluded.

Gunn dismissed the campaign’s potential impact when responding on Threads: "Lol I think we'll survive. I doubt the eight people listening to that guy – safe to assume it's a guy – will sway anything."

The r/SnyderCut moderation team later clarified they removed the post within two hours, noting minimal engagement before deletion. However, screenshots had already spread across social media, reaching Gunn’s attention.

In a locked statement, the moderators emphasized:

"Our team never approved nor supports this post. As an open forum, submissions aren’t pre-screened. A post’s presence doesn’t imply endorsement. We regularly remove rule-breaking content, and this clearly violated both our guidelines and Reddit’s policies.

"The post wasn’t debated – it was unanimously rejected. While we respect personal viewing choices, we condemn fraudulent tactics to influence others’ decisions."

This incident continues a pattern of divisive behavior from some Zack Snyder devotees. Their online campaigning contributed to Warner Bros.’ 2021 release of the Justice League Snyder Cut. Last year, Suicide Squad (2016) director David Ayer faced backlash from factions of the fandom after expressing support for Gunn’s Superman and its trailer.

Ayer, whose polarizing DCEU installment tied into Snyder’s abandoned continuity, initially pleaded on X/Twitter for fans not to hijack Superman’s marketing cycle with renewed demands for his "Ayer Cut." After observing the vitriolic response, the director announced he was stepping back from online discourse.

Gunn recently addressed the faction of Snyder fans hoping for Superman’s failure during a Rolling Stone interview: "It doesn’t bother me. Some opposition keeps things interesting. One of our lead actors – I won’t name them – gets deeply affected by online negativity. I reminded them our trailer scored 97-98% positivity. The detractors actually help – universal praise seems suspicious.

"A little resistance is healthy. Though some complaints get absurd – remember when people claimed sunlight hurting Superman was controversial?"

In the same interview, Gunn explained his decision to drop subtitles from this July’s Superman and next year’s Supergirl films.
