Sony Says You Won't Have to Link a PSN Account to Play Some of Its PC Games Anymore
Sony is dropping the PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for several of its PC games, starting with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launching tomorrow. This means players won't need a PSN account to enjoy titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War Ragnarök, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. The impact on other single-player PC ports remains unclear.
However, Sony is incentivizing PSN account linking with in-game bonuses. Connecting your account will unlock rewards such as early suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a resource bundle (Hacksilver and XP) in God of War Ragnarök, bonus features and Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin in The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and the Nora Valiant outfit in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. Sony promises more benefits to come. These bonuses are in addition to existing perks like trophy support and friend management.
The decision follows player feedback regarding the previous PSN requirement, which faced criticism, particularly in regions lacking PSN access. This change marks a shift in Sony's PC gaming strategy, balancing accessibility with the benefits of its online ecosystem.
