A Study in Contrasts: Sony's Polar Opposite Releases
September 6th marked a day of mixed fortunes for Sony. While the company navigates the indefinite closure of Concord, its 3D platformer, Astro Bot, has launched to rave reviews.
The critical reception of Astro Bot is a sharp contrast to the underwhelming performance of Concord. Currently, Astro Bot boasts a Metacritic score of 94, placing it among the highest-rated standalone games of 2024. Only the Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree (95), surpasses it. Other notable titles include Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (both 92), Animal Well (91), and Balato (90).
Game8 awarded Astro Bot a 96, highlighting its polished and complete feel, even suggesting it as a potential Game of the Year contender. For a comprehensive review detailing Astro Bot's success and Team ASOBI's exceptional work, please see our full review (link to be inserted here).
