Updated SVC Chaos Lands on New Platforms

At EVO 2024, SNK surprised fighting game fans with the announcement of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos's re-release, now available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. Xbox users, unfortunately, are excluded from this release.

This updated version features a robust roster of 36 characters from both SNK and Capcom franchises. Expect to see favorites like Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury, the Mars People from Metal Slug, Tessa from Red Earth, and Capcom stalwarts Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter.

The Steam page highlights key improvements: rollback netcode for smoother online play, enhanced multiplayer with tournament modes (single, double elimination, and round-robin), a hitbox viewer, and a gallery showcasing 89 pieces of artwork.

From Arcade Classic to Modern Revival

SVC Chaos's return is momentous, considering its initial 2003 release. SNK's past financial difficulties and the challenges of transitioning from arcades to home consoles contributed to the game's long absence. However, the dedicated fanbase kept the game's memory alive, and this re-release celebrates its enduring appeal.

Capcom's Future Crossover Plans

In a recent Dexerto interview, Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto discussed Capcom's vision for future crossover fighting games. While a new Marvel vs. Capcom or a new Capcom/SNK collaboration is a long-term goal, he stressed the importance of first reintroducing classic titles to a new generation of players on modern platforms.

Matsumoto explained that the revival of past Marvel titles involved years of discussions with Marvel, finally culminating in their re-release. He noted the significant role of community-driven tournaments like EVO in reigniting interest in these classic franchises.

The renewed interest in these legacy titles, fueled by fan enthusiasm and developer commitment, ensures their continued presence on modern gaming platforms.
