Pokémon TCG Pocket developer, Creatures Inc., has issued 1,000 Trade Tokens to players – enough for only two substantial trades – while continuing to address issues with the controversial trading mechanic.

Players logging in today will find these tokens in their Gift menu without explanation. Creatures Inc. used X/Twitter to thank fans for their feedback and patience. Last week, the developer faced significant criticism, described as "hilariously toxic," "predatory," and "downright greedy" following the trading feature's launch.

The trading system, similar to other Pokémon TCG Pocket mechanics, restricts players from excessive pack openings, Wonder Picking, and now trading, without in-app purchases. The initial implementation included Trade Tokens as an additional limitation, drawing criticism due to their high acquisition cost. Players essentially needed to remove five cards from their collection to trade one of similar rarity.

Eight days after the release and subsequent backlash, Creatures Inc. acknowledged player dissatisfaction, which was foreshadowed by negative feedback three weeks prior to launch. The developer stated then, "Your concerns are seen… I'd like to invite everyone to try it and provide feedback."

This initial response led many to expect improvements, which didn't materialize. Creatures Inc. later conceded that "some restrictions… prevent players from casually enjoying" trading and promised to address concerns by offering necessary items as event rewards. However, the Cresselia ex Drop Event (February 3rd) failed to deliver on this promise.

Many believe the trading system is designed to boost revenue for Pokémon TCG Pocket, which reportedly generated $200 million in its first month, before trading was even available. This is further supported by the inability to trade 2-Star rarity cards or higher. Allowing immediate trades for missing cards would likely reduce the need for players to spend significant sums ($10, $100, or more) on random card packs. One player reported spending approximately $1,500 to complete the first set, with the third set arriving last week.
