Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross has arrived in Marvel Snap, and he's ready to shake things up. This 2-cost, 2-power card, portrayed by Harrison Ford in Captain America: Brave New World, boasts a unique ability: When your opponent ends their turn with unspent energy, you draw a card with 10 or more power.

This mechanic, similar to Red Hulk and High Evolutionary effects, leverages the power of card draw in Marvel Snap. While a 2-cost card drawing a single card would be incredibly powerful, Thunderbolt Ross's restriction to 10+ power cards limits its immediate impact. Currently, this includes cards like Attuma, Black Cat, Crossbones, Cull Obsidian, Typhoid Mary, Aero, Heimdall, Helicarrier, Red Hulk, Sasquatch, She-Hulk, Skaar, Thanos (if generated), Orka, Emperor Hulkling, Hulk, Magneto, Death, Red Skull, Agatha Harkness (if generated), Giganto, Destroyer, and The Infinaut.

Most decks only include a few, if any, of these high-power cards. However, Thunderbolt Ross shines in decks with a higher concentration of these cards, acting as a powerful deck-thinning tool. His primary counter is Red Guardian.

Optimal Deck Synergies:

Thunderbolt Ross fits seamlessly into Surtur decks. A sample Surtur deck includes: Zabu, Hydra Bob, Thunderbolt Ross, Armor, Cosmo, Juggernaut, Surtur, Ares, Attuma, Crossbones, Cull Obsidian, and Skaar. Note that this deck contains several Series 5 cards (Hydra Bob, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian, and Skaar), which can be substituted with alternatives like Iceman or Nico Minoru for Hydra Bob, and Aero for Cull Obsidian. The strategy centers on playing Surtur on turn 3 and using high-power cards to boost its power to 10, making Skaar free. Juggernaut and Cosmo provide end-game counters, while Armor protects against Shang-Chi. Thunderbolt Ross significantly enhances this deck's consistency by drawing crucial high-cost cards.

A Hela deck also benefits from Thunderbolt Ross: Black Knight, Blade, Thunderbolt Ross, Lady Sif, Ghost Rider, War Machine, Hell Cow, Black Cat, Aero, Hela, The Infinaut, and Death. This deck utilizes high-power cards of varying costs to be revived by Hela on the final turn. Thunderbolt Ross assists in drawing these cards for discarding. War Machine can be replaced with Ares or Swordmaster.

Is Thunderbolt Ross Worth the Investment?

Currently, unless you're a dedicated Surtur/Ares player, Thunderbolt Ross might not be worth the Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector's Tokens if you're on a tight budget. His value will increase as more 10+ power cards are added to the game, but his niche application and the current meta dominance of Wiccan decks (where opponents are less likely to leave unspent energy) limit his immediate appeal.
