Umamusume: Pretty Derby is ready to make its global debut with an English release. Cygames announced via Twitter (X) on April 27 that the international version will launch on June 26, 2025, with pre-registrations beginning April 28.
Originally released exclusively in Japan on February 24, 2021 for iOS, Android, and PC, the game presents an innovative concept where historical racehorses are reimagined as "horse girls" (Umamusume) - high school girls with equine characteristics. These characters train at Tokyo's Tracen Academy, pursuing dual dreams of racing stardom and idol fame.
The Steam page description highlights how players can "recruit trainees and supporters while experiencing an immersive sports life simulation with sophisticated training mechanics and cutting-edge 3D visuals." Featuring a gacha system, the game offers over 20 unique characters to collect, train, and compete with in races and performances.
Mobile gaming outlet PocketGamer.biz reported in March 2025 that the Japanese version surpassed $2.5 billion in mobile revenue within four years, nearing $1 billion during its launch year alone. Cygames aims to replicate this remarkable success internationally with the English release.
