When Pokémon TCG Pocket first launched, the meta was quickly dominated by a select few decks, with Misty's water-type decks gaining notoriety for their ability to overpower opponents early on, largely dependent on the luck of coin flips. Despite three expansions since its launch, Misty decks have not only maintained their dominance but have grown even stronger, much to the frustration of many players.

The core issue with Misty decks revolves around the card's unique mechanic. Misty, a Supporter card, allows players to choose a water-type Pokémon and flip coins until they land on tails. For each heads flipped, a water-type energy is attached to the chosen Pokémon. This can result in anywhere from zero to numerous energy attachments, making the outcome highly unpredictable and potentially game-changing. A successful flip could enable a player to win on their first turn, leaving opponents with no chance to respond.

Subsequent expansions have only amplified Misty's power. Mythical Island introduced Vaporeon, which can redistribute the energy gained from Misty among other water-type Pokémon. Space-Time Smackdown added Manaphy, further increasing the amount of water energy on the board. These expansions also brought powerful water-type Pokémon like Palkia ex and Gyarados ex, ensuring water decks remained at the top of the meta.

The latest expansion, Triumphant Light, introduced another card, Irida, that enhances Misty decks even further. Irida, also a Supporter card, can heal 40 damage from each Pokémon with water-type energy attached. This new addition allows water decks to stage significant comebacks, leveraging the energy distribution capabilities of Misty, Manaphy, and Vaporeon.

Some experts suggest that DeNA, the game's developer, introduced Irida to force players to make tough choices about which Supporters to include in their limited 20-card decks. However, many players have found ways to incorporate both Misty and Irida, continuing the dominance of water decks.

With an upcoming event in Pokémon TCG Pocket where players can earn rewards for winning consecutive matches, water decks are expected to be prevalent. Achieving a gold profile badge by winning five matches in a row is challenging, especially against decks that can secure early victories through favorable coin flips and have recovery options like Irida.

Given the current state of the meta, players might consider adopting a water deck themselves to stay competitive in the game's online environment.
