Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, originally slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025. The delay is attributed to the need to address significant issues in the recently released Path of Exile 2.

GGG had committed to continued updates for Path of Exile 1 even after the launch of Path of Exile 2. However, the Path of Exile 1 team was reassigned to assist with Path of Exile 2's endgame development before its December 2024 launch. While initially believing they could return to Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update in time for its February release, the scale of Path of Exile 2's problems, including crashes and balance issues, proved insurmountable.

In a video message, game director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation, stating they were "fooling ourselves" regarding the timeline. He explained the decision to prioritize Path of Exile 2's stability, given its immediate critical needs.

The delay means Path of Exile 1 players will have to wait longer for the 3.26 update. Rogers stated that the team will continue to focus on Path of Exile 2 until version 0.2.0 is released and for a couple of weeks thereafter, making it impossible to provide a firm release date for Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update. He expressed sincere apologies for the unforeseen circumstances and acknowledged the studio's need to improve its approach to managing simultaneous development of two games.

Despite the setbacks, Path of Exile 2's December 6, 2024 launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S was a resounding success, becoming one of Steam's most-played games.
