This app, WPSApp, assesses your WiFi network's security using the WPS protocol. Many routers have known or easily calculable WPS PINs, making them vulnerable. WPSApp leverages these weaknesses to test connections and identify vulnerabilities.
The app employs several known PIN generation algorithms and default PINs. It also calculates default keys for certain routers, displays stored WiFi passwords (requires root access), scans connected devices, and analyzes WiFi channel quality.
During a network scan, networks are categorized:
- Red Cross: Secure networks; WPS is disabled, and the default password is unknown.
- Question Mark: WPS is enabled, but the PIN is unknown. The app tests common PINs.
- Green Tick: Likely vulnerable; WPS is enabled, and the connection PIN is known, or the password is known even if WPS is disabled.
Root access is required to view passwords (on Android 9/10 and for some advanced features).
Important Considerations:
- Not all networks are vulnerable. A green tick doesn't guarantee 100% vulnerability; many router manufacturers have updated firmware to address this weakness.
- Test your own network first. If vulnerable, immediately disable WPS and change your password to a strong, unique one.
- Illegal activity is punishable by law. Unauthorized access to networks is a crime. The developer is not responsible for misuse.
- Android 6 (Marshmallow) and later require location permissions (Google's requirement).
- Samsung models may encrypt passwords, displaying hexadecimal digits instead. Decryption methods can be found online.
- LG models running Android 7 (Nougat) may experience PIN connection issues due to LG's software.
