Hexanaut.io is an engaging IO game focused on capturing as much territory as you can. Be careful not to cross your own path or get cut off by another player. Across the map, you'll find totems that provide special bonuses when captured. How much area can you dominate? Showcase your skills in this intense territorial conquest game.

HEXANAUT GAMEPLAY GUIDE

Use your mouse to navigate across the map. Leave your owned area to draw a boundary and begin claiming new land. Once you return to your territory, you'll complete the loop and capture all enclosed tiles.

But when you're outside your own zone, you become vulnerable. If another player crosses your path, they'll cut you off and you'll have to start over.

Aim to control 20% of the map to become a Hexanaut. If you maintain at least 20% territory for two full minutes after reaching that status, you win the game!

Be warned: if you're eliminated while another player is a Hexanaut, you cannot rejoin that match.

CAPTURING TOTEMS

There are five unique totems available to capture in Hexanaut.io. Players should secure them whenever it's safe to do so. Each offers distinct advantages that help you dominate the map and achieve Hexanaut status.

SPREADING TOTEM

The Spreading Totem is the only totem that directly grants you hexes in Hexanaut. After capturing it, the totem emits lasers that gradually claim nearby tiles one by one. This is particularly helpful early in the game when capturing territory can be challenging.

SPEED TOTEM

The SPEED TOTEM increases your movement speed by 5%. While this might seem modest, the effect stacks significantly when you collect multiple totems. Prioritize securing these totems for better performance throughout the game.

TELEPORTING GATE

These gates work exactly as expected—they offer instant point-to-point transportation. They're extremely useful when you need to cover large distances across your territory. Instead of traversing your entire domain, use a teleport gate to save valuable time. They also enable surprise attacks on opponents. Often, players will attack the edges of your territory while you're far away. By teleporting nearby, you can catch them off guard and cut their tails.

SLOWING TOTEM

The SLOWING TOTEM creates an area that drastically reduces the speed of any other player who enters. It functions like a spider web, trapping opponents while you move freely. Use this advantage to eliminate any players who enter the slow zone. Conversely, avoid enemy slowing totems whenever possible—there's no benefit to confronting opponents who hold such a significant advantage.

SPY DISH

The SPY DISH reveals the locations of all other players' territories. While this might not seem immediately impactful, it becomes crucial once you control substantial territory. Many players will attempt to invade your hexes, and the spy dish shows exactly which areas are under attack and require defense.

IS HEXANAUT A MULTIPLAYER GAME?

Yes and no. Hexanaut is classified as an IO game, meaning you play on servers populated by both real players and bots. The game features large lobbies, which would require many active players to fill quickly. To ensure fast matchmaking, servers include bots that behave much like human players, allowing you to join games almost instantly instead of waiting for enough people to join.
