The air in Meraung hangs thick with silence—too thick. Not even the crickets sing at night anymore. The forest beyond the rice paddies pulses with shadows that don’t belong to trees. The villagers speak in hushed tones, eyes darting toward the old stone well at the center of the village square. They call it The Watcher’s Mouth.

Arip steps through the weathered wooden gate, his boots sinking into the damp earth. His uncle’s funeral was three days ago. No one came to mourn but him. The village elders said it was "the will of the spirits." But Arip knows better. He remembers the last letter from his uncle:

"Arip... the dead don’t stay buried here. They remember. And they’re calling for you."

The first death was Old Man Djamal—found standing in his doorway, frozen mid-step, face frozen in a smile. No wounds. No signs of struggle. Just… stillness.
Then the girl from the riverbank—her body washed up three days later, hair glowing silver in the moonlight, eyes open, lips forming a word: “Arip.”

Now, the village whispers his name like a curse.

• Your uncle’s journal is hidden beneath the floorboards of his hut. The final entry:

  "It started when we stopped honoring the pact. The forest remembers. And the pact was never broken—it was buried. And now, it’s waking."
