Title: Whispers of Meraung
The air in Meraung Village hangs thick with silence—too thick. Not even the crickets sing at night anymore. The trees stand like sentinels, their gnarled branches clawing at a sky that never seems to clear. And the people… they vanish.
Arip steps off the rickety bus at the edge of the village, his boots sinking into the damp earth. The wooden sign, weathered and half-fallen, reads: Meraung – Where the Past Never Sleeps. He touches the worn wood, remembers his uncle’s voice: "Some truths aren’t meant to be found, boy. Some doors should stay shut."
Now, the door is wide open.
[Day 1 – The Return]
The funeral was small. Only a few mourners. The village elder, old Maung, said the uncle died peacefully. But Arip knows better. He found the journal hidden beneath a loose floorboard in the old house—his uncle’s handwriting, shaky, desperate:
"They’re not dead. Not really. The Veil is thin. I hear them at night—whispers in the root-chambers. The Dreamers walk again. I saw one in the well last moon. It wore my face."
Arip stares at the well. It’s old, stone-walled, half-covered in moss. No rope. No bucket. Just still, black water.
Then, the first body.
A fisherman found floating in the river, eyes open, mouth frozen in a silent scream. His skin… it was too cold. As if he’d been dead for weeks, though he’d only gone missing hours before.
[Day 2 – The Village Watches]
The villagers won’t speak to Arip. Not face-to-face. They speak through doors, through cracks in shutters.
"Don’t go to the old temple," says a child, voice like wind through reeds. "The stones remember names. And it knows yours."
The temple. Ruined, overgrown, built into the side of the mountain. The village elders say it was abandoned centuries ago—after the "Great Silence," when the Dreamers were sealed beneath the earth. When the people learned not to dream.
But dreams, it seems, don’t stay buried.
[Day 3 – The Journal Deepens]
Arip finds a second entry in the journal:
"The truth is in the dream. I followed it once. I woke up in the well. But I wasn’t me. I was… him. The one who sleeps beneath. He wants out. He says he’s been waiting for someone like you."
Arip’s breath catches. Someone like you.
He’s not just a man returning to mourn. He’s chosen. Or marked.
That night, he dreams.
He stands in the temple. The walls are lined with carvings—faces, all twisted in agony. And at the center, a mirror made of black glass. He looks into it.
His reflection smiles.
And speaks.
"You’re late, Arip. We’ve been waiting."
[Day 4 – The Choice]
The village is dying. Five dead now. All with the same frozen eyes. All found near the river or the old well.
The elder Maung finally breaks. He whispers: "The Dreamer is not one. It is many. And it feeds on memory. On regret. On those who remember too much."
He hands Arip a rusted key.
"Only the blood of the Dreamers’ last guardian can close the Veil. You are the last. Your uncle was not your uncle. He was your father. And he was the one who sealed it. For you."
Arip stares at the key. At his own face in the dim light. Something stirs beneath his skin. A memory not his own.
A vision: a boy, crying in the rain. A man with his eyes—his uncle—screaming as he pushes him into the well. "Don’t wake. Don’t dream. Run."
And then… silence.
[The Final Decision]
The temple door groans open on its own.
A cold wind carries voices—familiar, yet wrong. His mother. His childhood friends. His uncle.
"Come back, Arip. We’ve missed you."
The key glows in his hand.
The Veil is thin.
The Dreamers are awake.
And they are calling.
Will you:
- Enter the temple and face the truth beneath?
- Burn the journal and flee Meraung forever?
- Jump into the well—to see if you’re really who you think you are?
The dream is not over.
It’s only beginning.
[Choose your path. The village is watching.]
