Following a DMCA takedown of the popular Bloodborne 60fps mod last week, Lilith Walther, creator of the impressive Bloodborne PSX demake, reported a copyright claim on a YouTube video showcasing her work. This claim originated from MarkScan Enforcement, a company confirmed by modder Lance McDonald to be acting on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment – the same entity responsible for the 60fps mod takedown.

McDonald speculates that Sony's actions might be preemptive, clearing the way for an official 60fps remake or remaster by removing competing fan-made content from search results. This "copium theory," as he calls it, suggests Sony aims to secure trademarks related to "Bloodborne 60fps" and "Bloodborne remake" before any official announcement.

The situation highlights the ongoing frustration surrounding Bloodborne's lack of official updates or ports to newer platforms. While fans have achieved impressive results with PS4 emulation, enabling 60fps gameplay on PC, Sony's aggressive response raises questions. Sony has yet to offer a public statement regarding these actions.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered his perspective, suggesting that Hidetaka Miyazaki's personal attachment to Bloodborne and his desire to maintain creative control might be preventing any official remaster or sequel. Yoshida clarified this is merely a theory, and he doesn't possess inside information.

Despite Miyazaki's previous comments acknowledging the game's potential benefit from a modern hardware release, Bloodborne remains absent from current-gen platforms, leaving fans in a state of anticipation and uncertainty nearly a decade after its initial release. The IP ownership by Sony, not FromSoftware, further complicates the situation.
