Boosting the Video Game Industry
Capcom's newly announced competition marks a significant step towards nurturing future game developers. This unique initiative targets Japanese university, graduate, and vocational school students, providing them with hands-on experience using Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE. The aim is to invigorate the industry by fostering research and development within educational institutions, ultimately cultivating exceptional talent.
Teams of up to 20 students will participate, each member assuming a specific role mirroring real-world game development positions. Guided by experienced Capcom developers, these teams will have six months to create a game, learning state-of-the-art development techniques. Capcom offers promising winners post-competition support, including potential commercialization opportunities.
The application window opens December 9, 2024, and closes January 17, 2025 (unless otherwise stated). Eligibility is restricted to Japanese students aged 18 or older currently enrolled in a relevant educational institution.
The RE ENGINE (Reach for the Moon Engine), initially developed in 2014 for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, has powered numerous Capcom titles, including subsequent Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. This constantly evolving engine ensures the creation of high-quality gaming experiences.
