Honor of Kings Unveils Major Esports Plans for 2025
Following its successful global launch, Honor of Kings is making waves in 2025. Key announcements include a first-ever invitational tournament in the Philippines (February 21st - March 1st) and, most significantly, the global adoption of a ban-and-pick format for Season Three and all future tournaments.
This new format adds a layer of strategic depth. Once a hero is selected by a team in a match, that hero is ineligible for use by that same team for the remainder of the tournament. This impacts player choices, forcing teams to consider roster diversity and individual hero mastery.
A Strategic Shift
The ban-and-pick system is a popular choice in many MOBAs, including League of Legends. However, Honor of Kings' implementation differs. Instead of pre-tournament bans agreed upon by teams, the choice rests with individual players during each match. This emphasizes team coordination and strategic decision-making. Players must balance using their most proficient heroes with the overall team composition and the need to counter opponents.
