Rumors are swirling that Red Dead Redemption 2 might be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 by the end of 2025. According to GameReactor, sources close to Rockstar Games have hinted at a port of this iconic Wild West adventure for the new Switch, alongside a "next-gen upgrade patch" for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. These updates are expected to enhance the gaming experience on current-gen consoles as well. Although specifics are sparse, the sources suggest that both the Switch 2 port and the upgrade could be available as soon as later this year.

Echoing these claims, Nintenduo also reports that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 might hit the market within Take-Two's current financial year, ending on March 31, 2026. It remains uncertain whether the game will be offered digitally or as a physical copy.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018, it was hailed as a "masterpiece" by IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review, earning a perfect 10/10 score. The review praised it as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."

The potential arrival of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Switch 2 wouldn't be too surprising, especially in light of recent comments from Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick. In a Q&A session following the company's latest financial results, Zelnick expressed "great optimism" about Nintendo's new platform. He highlighted that Take-Two plans to launch four titles on the Switch 2, which is a more extensive lineup than they've previously offered for a new Nintendo console. Zelnick noted, "Historically, being a third-party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that. And we're stepping up too, because we have great optimism for the platform. In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis, we obviously want to be where the consumers are. But we would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities as well."

Take-Two has confirmed the release of several titles for the Switch 2, including Civilization 7 on its launch day, June 5, the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (with unspecified titles and dates), and Borderlands 4 on September 12. Given that Take-Two already publishes these franchises on the original Nintendo Switch, their inclusion isn't surprising. However, Zelnick's statements suggest that the door is open for additional releases, possibly including other titles from Take-Two's back catalog. While GTA 6 might not make it to the Switch 2, there's potential for GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 to join the lineup.
