Featuring Multiple Cities

Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, Project Orion, is set to expand its universe by adding another city to the mix, complementing the well-known Night City. During the Digital Dragons 2025 event on May 20, R. Talsorian Games founder and game designer Mike Pondsmith shared insights into the sequel's development.

Though Pondsmith's involvement in the sequel is less extensive than with Cyberpunk 2077, he remains engaged, reviewing scripts and offering feedback on new elements like cyberware. He disclosed, "I see the scripts. Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments and seeing what they had like, ‘this is the new Cyberware, what do you think?’"

Pondsmith also hinted at the new city, describing it as, "I remember looking at it and going, ‘I understand the feel that you’re going for, and this really does work, it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong’. And I said, ‘yeah, I can see this working’."

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has been proactive in recruiting talent for Cyberpunk 2, with job listings for roles such as Lead Encounter Designer. This position aims to create groundbreaking gameplay encounters and collaborate with the systems design team to develop the most realistic and reactive crowd system in gaming to date.

While details about Project Orion are scarce, the insights from Pondsmith and CDPR's hiring efforts suggest that Cyberpunk 2 will continue to build on its predecessor's rich world-building and storytelling.

New Footage for Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Port

In other developments, CDPR has released new footage of Cyberpunk 2077’s Switch 2 port, showcasing their efforts to optimize the game for Nintendo’s upcoming console. The studio has uploaded around 37 minutes of B-roll videos on their website, demonstrating the game's performance on the Switch 2.

Despite some reported performance issues, including frame drops, during Nintendo Switch 2’s showcase events in New York and Paris, CDPR Engineer Tim Green expressed satisfaction with the port's progress. He noted on April 25 to Game File, "We haven’t had to fight with fitting into memory, and the speed of the data storage has helped alleviate some of those early streaming problems. This has allowed us to focus our attention on improving other things, and we’re very happy with the result."
