Monster Hunter Wilds reimagines the series' iconic hunts within a dynamic, interconnected world. A living ecosystem evolves in real-time, responding to player actions.

In a Summer Game Fest interview, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, executive director Kaname Fujioka, and director Yuya Tokuda revealed their vision for Wilds. The focus is on seamless gameplay and an immersive environment.

Players remain hunters exploring uncharted territories, encountering new creatures and resources. However, the Summer Game Fest demo showcased a significant shift from the traditional mission structure. Wilds features a seamless open world, allowing unrestricted exploration, hunting, and environmental interaction.

"Seamlessness is central to Monster Hunter Wilds," stated Fujioka. "We aimed to create detailed, immersive ecosystems demanding a seamless world brimming with freely huntable monsters."

A Dynamic World

The demo featured desert settlements, diverse biomes, a variety of monsters, and NPC hunters. The open structure lets players freely choose targets and actions, offering a more flexible hunting experience. Fujioka emphasized the importance of world interaction: "We focused on interactions like monster packs pursuing prey and their conflicts with human hunters. These characters exhibit 24-hour behavior patterns, creating a dynamic, organic feel."

Real-time weather and fluctuating monster populations further enhance the dynamic world. Director Yuya Tokuda explained the technological advancements: "Creating a massive, evolving ecosystem with more monsters and interactive characters was a major challenge. Environmental changes occur simultaneously—a feat previously impossible."

The success of Monster Hunter World provided valuable lessons for Wilds' development. Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto highlighted the impact of their global approach: "We adopted a global mindset for Monster Hunter World, focusing on simultaneous worldwide release and extensive localization. This global perspective helped us consider players unfamiliar with Monster Hunter and how to engage them."
