Monster Hunter Wilds: Duration Revealed
Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in Capcom's renowned action series, has arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, following the monumental success of Monster Hunter World and its expansive Iceborne addition. Curious about the time commitment? We've got you covered with detailed playtime insights from the IGN team, covering their journey through the main story, their focus areas, and their adventures in the postgame.

I completed the campaign of Monster Hunter Wilds in just under **15 hours**, reaching the actual end of the story. This contrasts with Monster Hunter Rise, where the first credits roll at roughly the midpoint of the narrative. However, completing the campaign only signifies the end of Low Rank; High Rank awaits with a plethora of side quests and tougher challenges, ensuring your journey is far from over.
I spent an additional **15 hours** tackling nearly all the High Rank quests, reaching what I consider the true endgame. This involved battling every available monster, unlocking all initial systems and crafting options, and getting acquainted with the innovative Artian weapon system designed to keep players engaged. Thanks to Wilds' streamlined progression, I only needed another five hours to optimize my preferred weapons and armor set, though there's always more to achieve across different weapon types.

I completed the final "story" mission in High Rank after around **40 hours**, roughly **22 hours after the credits rolled for Low Rank**. My time might be slightly off due to extensive menu navigation for guide creation. During the Low Rank phase, I didn't delve into the game's deeper systems, focusing instead on crafting with available resources and progressing without repeating hunts. In High Rank, I ventured off the story path to engage with new optional monsters and hunt with friends, which is necessary to unlock further Story Missions.
I only upgraded my weapon once by hunting an extra Ajarakan, otherwise, I made do with what I had and rushed to the end. Ideally, with more time, I would have spent around **60 hours** perfecting a more efficient armor and weapon set. Postgame, I still have endemic life to catch, fishing to do, and six monster-hunting Side Missions to complete, not to mention an additional optional quest to unlock. My plans include farming specific monsters for Talisman upgrades, experimenting with different armor sets, and exploring the Artian weapon system's RNG. I'm also looking forward to replaying the story with friends while mastering a new weapon, and eagerly anticipating upcoming event quests and title updates with new monsters.

I finished Monster Hunter Wilds' main story in just under **16 hours**, a surprisingly swift journey compared to my 25-hour experience with Monster Hunter World's campaign. As a relative newcomer to the series, I found the battles quite manageable, though the apex predators did pose a challenge at times. The game's streamlined approach, which simplifies elements like elemental strengths and weaknesses, crafting, and tracking, certainly contributed to this shorter runtime.
The consistent flow of story cutscenes and monster battles until the credits felt less like a traditional Monster Hunter experience and more influenced by Western cinematic storytelling. While this made the story accessible and quick to complete, I wonder if it sacrifices some of the series' core appeal until the postgame kicks in.

It took me about **20 hours** to reach the initial credits in Monster Hunter Wilds, with most of that time dedicated to optional and side quests, and a smaller portion spent exploring the game's world. I enjoyed discovering hidden paths, hunting endemic life, customizing my radial menus and shouts, and finding optimal locations for pop-up camps.
Completing all High Rank missions and side quests took me another **15 hours**, allowing me to encounter all the post-credits monsters. So far, I've logged nearly **70 hours** in the postgame, enjoying casual hunts with friends, farming decorations, and pursuing monster crowns. While I've had a fantastic time, I'm eagerly awaiting future title updates that will introduce more monsters to the roster.

I reached the first credits in Monster Hunter Wilds after about **20 hours**, primarily focusing on the main story with occasional detours to craft appealing armor sets and experiment with various weapons, particularly the Switch Axe. My total playtime now stands at **65 hours**, and I don't consider the credits the true end; they're more of a narrative turning point. The story feels like an extended tutorial, which suits me fine as it leads to more monster hunting and crafting opportunities. Except for Congalala—I could do without seeing him again.
